Dev Diary #1 – Kick-Off!

Welcome to our first dev blog post! We hope you enjoy your stay!

UniKaos has been in development for over 2 years now, but just 10 days ago, we began the process of building our team, adding two awesome artists: Laís and Gabriel. They’re hard at work creating the concept art and 3d models of our characters, the first of which is a frog-like alien geologist called Eslan. Eslan wants to find iridium out there, in space! Here’s Eslan’s story:

“I have been collecting and mining minerals my entire life, supplying industries with the resources they need to take my species forward. One element has been extremely difficult to locate on my planet: iridium. Almost all traces of it have come from space. Asteroid impacts. I know the potential of this metal. My planet is extremely humid, and iridium is basically immortal to rust. It would change all of our lives if we truly had loads of it. I will find an asteroid that is practically made of iridium and I will land the thing on my planet. My people will always remember my name.”

Every single “Uni” in UniKaos has an origin story, a life goal, likes and dislikes. We’ll talk about many more of them as development progresses. Our dream is to have an origin video of each of them on YouTube post-release. Fingers crossed.

We’ve also begun testing some of our crazy arena designs. We’re tired of rectangular fields. It’s time for something new. Here’s one of those crazy ideas, but you can expect a lot of variety when the game launches!

I also took some time this week to create the art style for our Unis’ ultimate skills. Created two different shapes. I think the rhomboid looks cooler, but we ended up going with the circles, because they complement the rest of the UI better.

These skills may or may not be in the final game

Thank you so much for tuning in!

PS: Expect more cheesy sports puns in the future, of course.
