Our game is very close to reaching the point where we’ll be handing it off to a whole bunch of kids we know so they can test it, break it, have fun with it, tell us how much we suck (or not, hopefully), etc.
We have some minor adjustments to make still, but the progress we’ve made over 3 months is awesome.
Our first complete arena scene is done, and the other 4 will follow this coming week. Check it out:
Brand don’t need ball. Brand have ketchup.
We spent some time arranging those supporter ships I talked about in previous posts. They’ll change colors to represent the home teams in the future, but as you can see, they already show the team badges.
The star-studded skybox was a fun thing to plan out. It’s from a Unity asset we purchased that gives you a lot of control. We didn’t want the stars to be spread out evenly like in a lot of games we play, because that’s not how it is in real life. We’re actually in one of the outer arms of the Milky Way, and in space, things gravitate towards forming discs. That means stars get bunched up in a “line”. That’s why it’s called Milky Way… there’s a trivia question for ya. There are still stars outside of this line, but they’re much further apart. Also… having this “rubber band” of stars just looks way cooler.
As you can see from the screenshot, our ships are filled with supporters. In the future, they’ll be wearing your team’s colors. They’re little aliens that go nuts when you score a goal. Also, let’s imagine there’s an invisible force field around them that pressurizes the stands and provides breathable air in outer space.
We have 2 more arenas with their models done, and 2 final ones on the way. Here are the two models:
We hope to show you a few more screenshots with different arenas in the next blog post.
Nick (our programmer) and I worked on character skills. Nick’s getting them implemented, I created sound effects for them, with the help of freesound.org. They have many thousands of royalty free sound effects. I spent some time looking for some interesting ones, then mixed a few together on Adobe Audition to create the sounds for the four Uni skills we have.
That’s all we have for today! The next couple of weeks will be exciting though!
See you in two weeks!
